Last week, we teamed up with author Rab Ferguson for a five-school assembly tour across Bristol, reaching around 1,800 pupils with engaging sessions built around The Late Crew books.
We visited:
The assemblies introduced pupils to the experiences of young carers through storytelling, humour and creativity. At Hareclive E-ACT Academy, we spent lunchtime with a group of young carers who took part in an art session with Rab, designing their own aliens inspired by the books.
Feedback from staff has been overwhelmingly positive:
“The children found him really engaging and really enjoyed listening to the books! The copies we have here have already been snapped up in the library.”
“Teachers found Rab’s content really useful in raising awareness.”
“A couple of children have spoken to their teachers about being a young carer. One referral is already being made.”
We’re incredibly grateful to all the schools for their warm welcome and to the pupils for their enthusiasm. Raising awareness of young carers in schools is a vital part of our work—and this tour was a brilliant example of how stories can spark conversations and connection.
