We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news! Halimo Jama, who was shortlisted for the Community Volunteer Award at the Carers UK Awards, has received a Highly Commended recognition in her category!
This is an outstanding achievement—especially with more than 650 nominations submitted this year.
“Highly Commended” awards weren’t given in every category. They were reserved for cases where judges found it exceptionally difficult to choose a winner because two candidates stood out as being very close. The Community Volunteer Award was one of the few categories where this happened, making Halimo’s recognition even more special.
We’re so proud to see Halimo’s commitment, warmth, and generosity celebrated on a national stage.
As a carer herself, Halimo brings a unique understanding and empathy to her volunteer role. Through our Walk and Talk project, she has offered not just her time, but her compassion—creating safe spaces where carers can connect, share, and find strength in one another.
Halimo also volunteers at our Carers Community Café in St George and at the Vassall’s Centre. She has played a key role in encouraging Somali carers to attend the St George café, which is dedicated to the Somali community, and she also provides interpreting support there.
Her nomination reflects the incredible impact she has made in the lives of many local carers.
Congratulations, Halimo! We’re so proud of your dedication and the invaluable support you provide to carers in our community.
