Winter Wellbeing Walk for Carers at Westonbirt Arboretum

4th November 2025

We’re delighted to announce a new opportunity for carers to enjoy the beauty and calm of Westonbirt Arboretum this winter, thanks to generous support from the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum.

As part of our Walk & Talk Winter Wellbeing programme, we’re offering a series of three guided group walks at Westonbirt. These walks are designed to support carers’ wellbeing through gentle outdoor activity, social connection, and time in nature.

First Walk: Winter Wellbeing Walk – November 2025

The first walk will take place in November and is open to adult carers. It includes:

  • A gentle, accessible guided walk through the Arboretum
  • Light refreshments
  • A relaxed nature-based craft session in the Learning Centre

Carers will be supported by experienced Carers Support Officers throughout the visit. We understand that many carers live with long-term health conditions or have varied mobility needs, and Westonbirt offers accessible paths and mobility support to ensure everyone can take part comfortably.

Spaces are limited, so we’re managing bookings carefully. To express interest or find out more, please email walk@carersbsg.org.uk or call CarersLine on 0117 965 2200.

Future Walks

Two more walks are planned:

  • January 2026: A chance to start the new year with fresh air, gentle exercise, and positive experiences.
  • February 2026: A special Young Carers’ Winter Woodland Day.

We’re finalising details of these New Year walks and will share more soon.

These walks aim to make nature more accessible to carers, especially those who may face barriers such as transport costs or feeling unsure about whether they “fit in” to spaces like Westonbirt.

Free Individual Visits

If you can’t attend a group walk, you can still enjoy Westonbirt in your own time. Thanks to the Community Access Scheme, Friends of Westonbirt have kindly provided 60 free passes for carers. These can be used for solo visits or with the person you care for. To request a pass and receive a feedback form, email walk@carersbsg.org.uk or call CarersLine.

We’re grateful to the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum for supporting this initiative and helping us make nature more welcoming and inclusive for carers across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
