1st June 2026

As Volunteers’ Week begins, we want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers who support carers across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Volunteers are central to everything we do. Every day, people give their time, skills and care to help carers feel supported, understood and less alone. Some volunteer directly with carers through befriending, Walk and Talk groups or community activities. Others volunteer behind the scenes, helping with admin, governance and planning – roles that are just as vital to ensuring our services run smoothly.
One of our volunteers recently shared their experience of supporting Carers Support through an admin role. They talked about the importance of feeling welcomed, supported and valued, and how volunteering helped build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging. Their story is a powerful reminder that volunteering isn’t only about what you give – it’s also about being part of a team that recognises and values your contribution.
There’s no one way to volunteer, but every role makes a difference.
At the heart of our volunteering is relationship and trust. Volunteers often tell us how meaningful it feels to know their time is appreciated and their contribution matters. Carers tell us how much they value the kindness, understanding and consistency volunteers bring. For Carer Representatives, volunteering also means using lived experience to help shape services so carers’ voices are truly heard.
“Volunteering has made me feel genuinely valued – part of a team where my contribution matters.”

Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing stories that reflect the many ways volunteers support carers and strengthen our community. These stories highlight the diversity of our volunteers and the shared commitment that brings them together.
To everyone who volunteers with Carers Support: thank you. Your time, compassion and dedication make a real difference – during Volunteers’ Week and throughout the year.
