We’re pleased to share the latest edition of Carers News – our Summer 2025 issue, packed with updates, support opportunities, and real stories from our community of unpaid carers across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Front-page feature: Befriending and Connection Service expands
This edition’s headline story celebrates the expansion of our Befriending and Connection Service for carers aged 55 and over, thanks to generous support from The Grateful Society and The Dolphin Society. If you’re feeling isolated or just need a friendly voice, the service offers weekly phone calls from trained volunteer befrienders – a simple but powerful way to feel more connected.
“This is a lifeline for carers who often feel invisible and unheard,” says Camilla, who runs the service. “A regular call can really lift someone’s week. We’re here to remind you: you’re not alone.”
Inside the issue:
- Andy’s Story: A powerful account of caring while living with Asperger’s, ADHD and dyslexia – and the difference peer support can make.
- Financial Support Updates: Key changes to Carer’s Allowance, PIP, and other benefits – and what they mean for unpaid carers in 2025.
- Young Carers Action Day: A creative and inspiring event, co-led by young carers, that brought together over 50 young people to share their voices with local decision-makers.
- Carers Support recognised nationally: Our work identifying carers in healthcare settings has been highlighted as best practice in a new national report.
Whether you're a carer, a professional, or simply want to stay connected with the carer community, this issue is full of insight, guidance and inspiration.
