Rab Ferguson to Visit Bristol Primary Schools for Young Carers Assembly Tour

14th July 2025

We’re pleased to announce that author Rab Ferguson will be visiting five Bristol primary schools on 7th October 2025 as part of a special Young Carers Assembly Tour, supported by Carers Support Bristol & South Gloucestershire.

Planned schools include:

Barton Hill Primary

West Town Lane Academy

Perry Court E-ACT Academy

Merchants’ Academy Primary

Bridge Learning Campus Primary Phase (subject to confirmation)

Rab is the author of The Late Crew, an award-winning children’s book series about young carers who encounter aliens and embark on imaginative adventures. His assemblies are designed to be fun, creative, and engaging, while also raising awareness about the lives of young carers.

Each 30-minute session includes readings from the books and a collaborative activity where pupils help Rab invent a new alien character—often resulting in plenty of laughter and creativity. Schools taking part will receive two free copies of The Late Crew for their libraries, and there is no cost to participate.

Last year’s tour reached over 1,300 pupils across South Gloucestershire, with schools sharing positive feedback:

“The assembly was brilliant and our children really enjoyed creating the story.”

“Thank you so much for the assembly. The kids loved every minute of it and some have even been showing me their stories they have been writing.”

“All the staff said how amazing it was. We have also had children asking about young carers so that is also very positive.”

We’re looking forward to another successful day of assemblies and thank the participating schools for their support in helping raise awareness of young carers in a creative and accessible way.
