We are thrilled to share some wonderful news: Halimo Jama, one of our dedicated Walk and Talk volunteers, has been shortlisted for the Carers UK Community Volunteer Award.
This prestigious national award recognises individuals who go above and beyond to make a difference for carers in their communities. Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement in itself, and we are so proud to see Halimo’s commitment, warmth, and generosity recognised on a national stage.
As a carer herself, Halimo brings unique understanding and empathy to her volunteer role. Through our Walk and Talk project, she has offered not just her time, but also her compassion, creating safe spaces where carers can connect, share, and find strength in one another.
Halimo also volunteers at our Carers Community Café in St George and at the Vassall’s Centre. She has played a key role in encouraging Somali carers to attend the St George’s café, which is dedicated to the Somali community, and she also provides interpreting support there.
Her nomination is a true reflection of the impact she has made in the lives of many local carers.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 16 October at Plaisterers’ Hall, London. Whether or not she takes home the award, Halimo’s shortlisting is a moment to celebrate, and we are incredibly grateful for her dedication and contribution to our community.
On behalf of everyone at Carers Support Bristol and South Gloucestershire, we want to say a huge congratulations to Halimo – and thank you for everything you do.
