If you’re caring for someone who is ill, frail or has a disability, you might need a reliable break. The Care Support Service at CCWS offers just that: trained care-support workers from the Chinese community who will visit your cared-for person in their own home while you rest or attend to other things. They can also help with light domestic tasks such as deep cleaning, laundry, taking out rubbish, gardening, meal-preparation, shopping, escorting to appointments, picking up prescriptions and accompanying visits.

The service is culturally sensitive, languages accommodated include Mandarin and Cantonese, and it’s especially aimed at Chinese-speaking clients across the South West.

Carers are also supported with information and resources — there are films in Mandarin and Cantonese to help you recognise your role and access further support.

About Chinese Community Wellbeing Society

The Chinese Community Wellbeing Society (CCWS) is a Bristol-based charity supporting the health and wellbeing of Chinese-speaking communities across the South West of England. Established in 1989, CCWS provides culturally sensitive services including carer support, dementia care, hate crime assistance, and a free helpline, helping individuals and families navigate social, health, and wellbeing challenges. Through educational, recreational, and community initiatives, CCWS promotes integration, reduces isolation, and enhances quality of life for Chinese and East and South East Asian communities.

They offer language and culturally appropriate support to Chinese speaking carers. Whether you have a one-off enquiry, need respite, or require long-term support, they provide a variety of services and activities designed to meet your individual needs. They also deliver regular information and wellbeing workshops, where carers can share experiences and learn from each other in a safe and supportive space.
